| Constable, John (1776-1837) English painter acknowledged as one of the finest British Landscape Artists. He loved the English countryside, never traveled abroad, and his finest works were of scenes of Suffolk and Hampstead where he resided. His talents were unique as he developed his own technique of capturing the variances of light and weather with rapid brushstrokes and splashes of pure, bright color. Although he joined the Royal Academy Schools in 1799 recognition of his works was not swift and he was not admitted as a full Academician until 1829. |
