American photographer and film maker, studied film at the New School for Social Research, New York from 1948 to 1950.     Photographic assistant with US Army Signal Corps and Standard Oil Company from 1950 to 1952.   Freelance photographer and film maker from 1953.    Internationally renowned for his street photographs.    Films include The Director, Beauty Knows No Pain and Red, White and Blue Grass.
