| Guardi, Francesco (1712-93) One of a Venetian family of artists whose work was largely immersed in the general works of the Studio until the death of his brother and Studio Head, Gianantonio, in 1760 when he concentrated on his paintings of Venetian Scenes for which he is now famous. A very prolific painter, he is also considered by some to be the authorship of the renowned "Story of Tobit" which decorate the organ loft of S. Raffaele in Venice, although there is some dispute as to whether this is wholly or partially attributable to his brother, Gianantonio. Elected to the Venetian Academy in 1784. |
