John Singer Sargent BIOGRAPHY AND EXAMPLES OF WORK
Sargent, John Singer (1856-1925)
An American painter who spent most of his working life in London, England. Studied under Carolus-Duran then quickly gained a reputation as a very accomplished portrait artist. He associated with many Impressionists and his later landscapes were to clearly display his absorption of their technique and style. He formed a strong alliance with Claude Monet and produced two superb portraits of him.
