Picasso, Pablo
(1881-1973)
Spanish painter, sculptor, draughtsman,
graphic and stage designer, and ceramicist who was the indisputable genius
of 20th century art. The son of a Spanish painter and
art teacher, José Ruiz Blasco he studied at La Lonja in
Barcelona. His very personal style constantly developed as he
learnt from his studies and associations with El Greco, Velazquez and Goya
in Spain and Toulouse-Lautrec, Gauguin and Van Gogh in France progressing
from his Blue Period in his early years in Barcelona where he drew his
inspirations from the vagabonds, prostitutes and deprived people.
