indexes present the Barewalls collection of art reproductions,
from the perspective of art history. Tens and thousands of
museum art pieces of all epochs, schools, and approaches are
represented here. Rigorous documentation of all known art
categories within the collection is important. Although many of
the images fit into established historical genres, there are
many genres that are less documented in the journals of art
history: Charts and Collections, Vintage Advertising, Sports
Panoramas, to name a few. Barewalls is a four-way intersection
of art, popular culture, décor and commerce. This collision of
user-needs produces a creative and exciting image indexing
environment -- posters and prints cannot rely on traditional
"academic-styled" art categorization alone. Barewalls
has classified both traditional museum art as well as popular
imagery, such as, motivational prints and magazine covers.
